It’s been more than 2 years since I first told one of my client: “you know, I think we could build your site on WordPress”. My client had to sell plane models and he was scared of the huge price such a site might entitle. Not to mention he is not a specialist in web development, so updating his site could have been either costly (if he chose someone else to do it) or difficult (if he was the one to update the content). He’s been running the site for all this time saving time and money. Here is why I would recommend you to use WordPress for your presentation site:
I have had some bad experiences with paid software in my life. They either stopped supporting, the license would cost me more each year, I had quite some issues with this. Right now I am building my own presentation / article sites on this free platform. I can save money and still run an excellent project.
If you have to present your services and provide some useful articles, you can pay for a custom built CMS (that would take your costs in the thousands or even more) or use WordPress. The platform itself is FREE, so you’re suddenly not paying for the custom coding. The theme design (which in the end makes or breaks your site) will cost you less than 500 USD or you could get even a better pricing, depending on the provider.
As you can see, this site is built on WordPress. Many others in my portfolio are again using it. The design possibilities are limitless, you can have a site look like a blog or anything else. It all depends on the talent of your designer.
My client is not a web savvy person. He is the normal guy who can send emails and comment online. And maybe have a Facebook account. Of course, telling him “you gotta upload fresh content periodically or change the information on your site” was a shocker. Then we met for 30 minutes to a nice cafe downtown, both carrying our laptops. It took me literally MINUTES to show him where the articles are in the administration system, where to edit, how to place tags etc.
For my overseas clients I organize chat sessions on Skype and in under 30 minutes they’re “heroes” in managing their own content. I have taught half my web design clients so far and it took them few minutes and 2-3 test posts under my surveillance to understand the system.
WordPress was created for the “normal people”, who don’t design sites, who don’t know HTML/CSS. They take over the site from the moment I have made all the needed settings and can manage their projects with ease and speed.
Some custom created platforms can only be edited by the ones who have created them. One of my clients lost his entire site because the web developer he used to work with suddenly stopped responding to his calls and the files were encrypted. When working with WordPress, ANYONE who is specialized in it (and we are talking thousands of talented web designers and developers) can take the site as you have it now and revamp the design, add new features, correct bugs etc.
The development team is made of excellent professionals and you’ll always be able to find a specialist to help you run the site.
My first sites were constructed 8 years ago. I have spent all this time trying to find the best solutions for me and my clients. Most platforms I’d use before were either missing features or so filled with all kinds of useless elements, that running a site was a pain. And having a client run such a site was a bad experience for the both of us.
WordPress can be run as a simple 5-6 pages presentation site, if you need it like this. It’s easy to set up, you get the unique design you need for it, the “tutorials” to run it, if you are inexperienced with it and in few days you are already running an excellent site, that cost a fraction from what you’d have otherwise paid, looks original and beautiful and has excellent SEO features. WordPress “ranks” amazingly well in this area too, and you can always have a SEO plugin installed to maximize your results.
Plugin installation is one of the easiest I have experienced, it’s literally one touch of a button.
I have personally moved my sites from whatever solutions I had been using to WordPress since, even if I know how to handle them, it’s easier to work with WP. It takes me seconds to open an article and update / install something on it. Not to mention that the thousands of plugins with new features allow us to use our sites for more than just posting 4-5 pages.
We can present our services and blog too (as I am doing here), we can sell items, install Amazon affiliate stores and many more.
The possibilities are infinite. All you need, is a good WordPress specialist and you can have an amazing site created on this excellent script. And coincidence or not, you are already in contact with such a specialist. Please see what I was personally able to achieve with WordPress and contact me for your amazingly affordable web design quote.
